Study Habits in Eight Simple Steps

Good study habits prove rewarding when weekly-unit grades are assessed and posted. In developing study habits, time is of the essence and students must set aside time everyday to read assigned chapters while also completing required assignments. Do you wait until the last minute to study or to complete homework? Does the stress loom and cause feelings of hopelessness and disappointment?

The Pros of Joining a Student Club

As many students already know, joining an academic club provides many benefits. As the faculty moderator of the Workplace Learning Training and Development Club (WLTDC) at American InterContinental University Online, I watch as students develop a new skill set through club events and monthly meetings. So first, let’s discuss club events. Like most clubs, WLTDC holds monthly events to bring members together and present on topics of interest to the club. Additionally, speakers are invited to make presentations regarding a specific industry in which he/she is employed or their area of expertise. This presents a valuable opportunity for students to network with industry professionals. Students are also able to link unit concepts from their course of study with current market trends and see real world examples of how their knowledge will benefit them in the workplace.

Attending school online is quickly becoming a popular alternative for busy women who want to get ahead in their education or career. Although it provides the convenience of attending class in the comfort of your own home, it lacks the social aspect that can be so important during education. Here are a few ways to bring back the social dynamic to the online classroom.

What is it you want to achieve this year? To achieve any goal, you have to have a plan. And again, you want to be sure your plan involves the small, doable steps that you can use or apply every day to keep you on track. A first step to meeting your goal could be to research how others have gotten to where you’d like to be. Doing so may give you some ideas to help you fulfill your goal.

It all began with an innocent search for online programs. If I was going to get a doctoral degree, I knew I would again utilize the online format because my busy life demands that kind of flexibility. Next thing I knew, I had fallen in love with a school, and applications and transcripts were being mailed.

One thing that students returning to school after a long break or later in life seem to have in common is a lack of self-confidence. What I realized early in my teaching career is that these students often don’t give themselves enough credit for what they are accomplishing.

In 2001, Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) showed up both on the web and in student work, and since then a simple little site has given many professors sleepless nights. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia about everything, written by anyone. There is more to it, but in the end, the problem most people have with it is one of authority, reliability and validity of the content and its authors.

With today’s busy lifestyles, taking an online class is an attractive option. However, carefully consider your situation before you sign up. First, you should have a computer and Internet access in your home. If you do not, you will have a harder time getting your work completed and turned in on time. Next, you need to be comfortable using a computer and programs such as Microsoft Word and email.

I’d like to offer you some suggestions to deal successfully with your professors. First, be sure that you read and understand your syllabus. Often, the answers that you need can be found there. Next, check the syllabus for the professor’s office hours, phone number, and email address.
