Your Child and Daycare

As a single mother, one thing that I struggled with was finding a childcare facility and its expenses. To my surprise daycare cost for a two year old was $230.00 a week in my surrounding area. The cost of childcare alone could be a barrier to continuing my education and starting a career.

Something I found was that each state and county has assistance programs that provide services for families. These facilities could help you find childcare providers as well as help offset costs. I found many of them provided assistance based on income but they were worth looking into.

When you are working everyday and have a small child it can become difficult to drop him off at daycare. Sometimes I would feel as though the daycare knew my child better than I did. I used to feel guilty about missing the developing stages of his life.

That made him a part of our daily routine. I would tell him that his job everyday was to go to school and be a good boy so when I picked him up he could tell me all about his day.

He is now 7 years of age and when I pick him up from school, the first thing he asks me is, “How was my day at work?”
