Professional Footwear in Extended Sizes

As someone with a size 10 or 11 foot, I am constantly frustrated at the lack of easy options for professional footwear in larger sizes. Places like Nordstrom’s and Nine West are often picked clean by fellow lady oafs, and often, shoes in extended sizes are painfully overpriced and utterly uncomfortable. Most importantly, a shoe has to fit perfectly and properly from the get-go. Look for round-toe Mary Jane style for a comfortable and versatile silhouette or a gently pointed kitten heel to go with classic trousers.

Next, shoes in classic colors are the most versatile, but keep an eye out for more unusual neutrals, such as gray, butterscotch and even deep red. Finally, it’s always nice to score inexpensive shoes, but a well-made shoe at a moderate price is a strong investment. These are your feet, after all!

Here are a few stellar options for moderately priced office-friendly footwear:

  1. www.barefoottess.com – This Web site is the real deal for women between the sizes of 11 to 15! Hundreds of fashion-forward shoes from dozens of designers, with many shoes prices between $40 and $100.
  2. www.kathrynkerrigan.com – Kathryn Kerrigan is a fabulous businesswoman with a size 11 foot! Check out her gorgeous range of office-chic footwear handmade in Spain up to size 15. These shoes are a bit pricy, but the craftsmanship and timeless styles are worth the price tag.
  3. Marmi – a handful of these shoe boutiques have sprung up across the U.S., with the newest outpost in Denver. Staffed with trained salespeople and stocked with name brand shoe designers, these shops cater to women with larger feet who enjoy a high-end boutique experience.
  4. John Fluevog Shoes – Definitely one of edgier footwear designers, John Fluevog carries up to a size 11 or 12 in almost every design. Influenced by art and fashion, these shoes are real statement pieces and can add lots of style mileage to any basic office ensemble, especially a causal workplace. John Fluevog often offers excellent sales and shopping events, so signing up for the email list is encouraged.
