Plus Size Fashion Classics

Nothing is more frustrating for a woman with closet full of clothes saying to herself, “I have nothing to wear!” Through many protracted and painful lessons in how (not) to dress myself, I have found that a classic group of core pieces can always come together for a perfect ensemble that fits, flatters, and offers lots of room for personal flair.

Firstly, a good pair of jeans always provides the base for an easy weekend look that always reads fresh and fun. Note to self - - if you find a pair of jeans you like, BUY TWO OF THEM. You will thank me later! A classic five pocket bootcut or trouser jean in a darker wash look great with any number of tops and sweaters without sacrificing any comfort. Fuller figures should choose jeans that follow the lines of the leg and bootie for a clean, close-to-the-body fit.

Secondly, a killer jacket or blazer always pays you back with timeless style. While a black jacket is an undeniable workhorse piece, jackets in brown or red also add dimension and depth to a wardrobe without sacrificing any long-term versatility. Jackets and blazers can be put back to any black pant, any dressy jean, or even over a print dress or patterned skirt. A great blazer will lay effortlessly over busts and hips without pulling or buckling. Choose single-breasted jackets with structured darting in the waist for a figure-friendly shape.

Finally, a go-to dress offers lots of solutions for social events and dressy professional opportunities. A simple black dress will always provide a sleek and chic silhouette for all sorts of accessories and shoes, but a wrap dress in a rich *pop* color or fun geometric print can also slot in a classic standard for womanly figures. Dresses are universally flattering at a just-below-the-knee hemline, and be sure to choose a strong shoe or boot for proportional balance.
