For all of you anxious job seekers out there who are looking for a different approach to enhance your job search and your chances for employment, here’s an idea! How about submitting your resume or completing an application in person. If you’ve located a prospective company in your area, done your research and have the opportunity to submit a resume or application face to face, put on your professional dress and take a step closer to success!

Your professional dress can leave a great first impression and huge impact on an employer who has to decide between candidates. Speaking with a company face to face allows for an individual to introduce themselves and display their professional demeanor as well as communication skills. If the opportunity is there, in your best business attire along with your resume and cover letter in hand confidently walk into a business and ask to speak with a manager about submitting an application. Then introduce yourself with a firm hand shake and express your interest in the position you are seeking. This may lead to an on-the-spot interview. If so, take full advantage of expressing to the employer why you are the one for the job.

Remember, the early bird catches the worm. Don’t be lazy; make that first step to success! If the opportunity is not there for a face-to-face submission, a phone call is just as effective. It is still true that the follow-up call is important whether you’ve submitted your resume in person or by email. And remember you can only make a first impression once. Business attire for woman consists of a skirted suit or pant suit. The skirt should be knee length either slightly above or below. Pants should break at the top of the foot or shoe. Shoes, jewelry, and perfume should be conservative as well.
