The holidays can be a busy and stressful time for anyone, but for adult students it quickly becomes a nearly impossible balancing act. Students are use to juggling multiple responsibilities, but during the holidays they are expected to –among other things-- do the holiday shopping, entertain the kids while they are off from school, work, fulfill family obligations and study for finals.
Holidays are a time to enjoy your friends and family, so don’t let the stress get the best of you. Here are a few tips to help students keep their cool and make the most of the holiday season.
1. Make lists! Before you leave the house to go holiday shopping, make a list of the key items you are looking to purchase and stick only to those items. It will keep you on task and you will spend less time in the mall.
2. Plan ahead. Take a look at your calendar and map out how you can accommodate each of your commitments. The more you anticipate, the less you will stress.
3. Get into the spirit of the season. Don’t let the stress get in the way of enjoying the holiday season. Engage in holiday activities with the family and remember that it only comes around once a year!
4. Take time for yourself. Even if it’s only taking five minutes to read a magazine in a quiet room, set aside time to relax. Taking time to relax will help you recharge and take on the rest of the week.
5. Be thankful. Although you are stressed out, take time to think about all the things you are thankful for this holiday season.
By keeping these tips in mind, you will be able to have a productive and pleasant holiday season. Happy holidays!
