Networking

What is networking? Networking is merely the ability to meet people and profit or benefit from the relationship. How does one benefit from the relationship? It can be in a number of ways, but usually by obtaining leads or information that can further your career or your business. Networking is important for success in career opportunities as well as business endeavors. Personally, I have found that professional networking has presented opportunities not only on a personal level, but also on a business level. Some networking opportunities have become profitable associations. Networking can get you customers, if you are in business, which can be important if you are interested in growing your business or your career. Sometimes I think of networking as a gift, because you can receive referrals and contacts that can advance your opportunities of growth. However, to me it is important to thank anyone who assists you in networking and in business. It is sometimes appropriate to pay a referral fee.

Meeting people face to face can maximize the effect of networking. This allows you to get a chance to build trust and build a meaningful relationship. You can also take advantage of your phone for customer and referral prospects of networking as well. The Internet has been an excellent way to network. There are many places one can find networking opportunities—through friends, family members, church members, co-workers, customers, trade shows, organizational meetings, and many other places where people convene. Some networking tips to building relationships include being friendly and introducing yourself; remembering personal details about the person; responding and replying when others reach out to you; and also being open minded and providing valid assistance to others when needed. Networking is essential to personal and business growth.
